Taking Power: A Special Issue of Eckleburg
TAKING POWER: A Special Issue
Call for submissions, women writers. Eckleburg invites writers who identify as women to submit fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, hybrid and experimental work for TAKING POWER, a special print issue.
We want work that looks the world in the eye.
As Gloria Steinem wrote: “Power can be taken, but not given. The process of the taking is empowerment in itself.”
Take the page. Take the space. Take the power.
What We're Looking for in TAKING POWER
TAKING POWER seeks writing and art that interrogate what it means for women to claim authority over their bodies, stories, identities, labor, language, desire, anger, ambition, and lives.
We are interested in work that takes risks—formally, intellectually, emotionally, politically. Send us the beautiful and the difficult. The funny, furious, intimate, unruly, strange, transgressive, tender, and impossible to categorize. Send us women who refuse the roles written for them and women reckoning with the roles they have inherited. Send us work about power possessed, power denied, power surrendered, power stolen, power survived, and power taken.
We welcome fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, microfiction, hybrid and experimental work, interviews, and visual art from emerging and established writers and artists who identify as women.
We are not looking for one definition of womanhood, feminism, or power. We are looking for voices with something at stake.
Take the page. Take the space. Take the power.
